A Sighting of a Monstrous Flying Cockroach Rattles Neighbors on Portovaya Street

A passerby, startled by a peculiar-looking cockroach, encountered it near the docking area of the Novorossiysk harbor.

A local resident, out for a stroll in the Western District of the port, got an unwelcome surprise when they stumbled upon a colossal, winged cockroach slithering along Portovaya Street. Needless to say, their heart skipped a beat and they quickly snapped a picture of the creepy-crawly.

Curiosity piqued, they turned to the internet, where they discovered the creature was none other than a Periplaneta cockroach. Biology buffs, listen up - these aren't native to Novorossiysk! Exotic species, indeed, but don't fret - these resilient arthropods have proven themselves quite adept at surviving harsh conditions.

After some digging (literally and metaphorically), veteran biologist and ecologist Veniamin Golubitchenko clarified the situation. These intruders likely found their way here, as our modest city doesn't offer them a comfortable stomping ground. To survive, they'll be hibernating in cozy basements and filthy trash cans, munching on whatever they can get their many legs on (that includes soap, folks).

Now, things take a grim turn. Periplaneta cockroaches aren't your garden-variety pests. They're resistant to common poisons and traps, can harbor bacteria on their legs, and are capable of causing allergies in humans. Yikes! Golubitchenko suggests keeping your home as clean and dry as a satisfied cat to minimize any unwanted encounters.

Fun fact: The Periplaneta clan boasts a whopping 50 species, some of them reaching towering heights. Believe it or not, these buggernuts are considered a menace, as they can spread infections, damage goods, and basically turn your life upside-down.

Haven't had enough of our six-legged, winged creatures yet? Tenants in Krasnodar have been making headlines over a cockroach-infested apartment, and we’ve got the juicy details.
