Baden-Württemberg Launches Major Digitalization Initiative for Long-Term Care

Baden-Württemberg has launched a significant initiative to enhance long-term care through digitalization. The Joint Declaration on Digitalization in Long-Term Care, signed by key stakeholders, aims to improve care quality, relieve caregivers, and foster cross-sector cooperation. With over 625,000 people currently requiring care, and projections indicating a rise to over 800,000 by 2060, the need for innovative solutions is pressing.

The declaration brings together the state, health insurance funds, provider associations, universities, and other partners to drive digitalization forward. Central areas of focus include enabling digital participation, promoting digital competencies, innovatively using new technologies, improving communication, and securing financing. Minister of Social Affairs, Health, and Integration Manne Lucha emphasizes that digitalization can help overcome sector boundaries, enhance workflows, and better involve relatives in care. The initiative seeks to strengthen those in need of care, support caregivers, and facilitate cross-sector cooperation.
