Cannabis Cultivation Project in Balingen-Ostdorf Sparks Debate
A cannabis cultivation project in Balingen-Ostdorf has sparked debate. The 'Zollernalb Cultivators' association aims to grow cannabis for its members' personal use. However, opponents voice concerns, and the local council has rejected the project management of the cultivation.
Supporters argue that legal cultivation won't deter consumption, while opponents fear it could lower barriers to drug use. Nationwide, around 200-300 cannabis clubs exist, with 20 approved in Baden-Württemberg alone. The 'Zollernalb Cultivators', registered in August 2022, is one such club.
To meet heavy consumers' demand, Germany would need around 2700-3000 cultivation associations, each with about 300 members. This is unlikely in the near future. The interim evaluation report on the cannabis consumption law suggests that displacing the black market may require further legislative changes.
Despite meeting legal requirements, the local council in Balingen-Ostdorf voted against the change of use for the barn, raising questions about the project's future. The debate around cannabis cultivation continues, with opposing views on its potential impacts.
