Cardiologist Warns: Regular Blood Pressure Checks Crucial for Silent 'Enemy'

Cardiologist Jorge Tartaglione visited LN studios on World Heart Day to discuss blood pressure, highlighting its silent nature and the importance of regular checks. He emphasized the need for precise measurement and shared essential steps for accurate readings.

High blood pressure, often referred to as the 'silent enemy', typically shows no symptoms. Dr. Tartaglione warned against relying on indicators like headaches or neck pain, as they are not reliable. Instead, he recommended regular blood pressure checks starting from the age of five and continuing annually in adulthood. To measure blood pressure precisely, he advised measuring after urinating and taking medications, supporting the arm, keeping the back straight, placing the cuff at heart level, and measuring twice in the morning and twice in the afternoon, averaging the results. Oscillometric devices are recommended by medical professionals for accurate readings. Dr. Tartaglione also emphasized the importance of proper preparation, such as resting for at least five minutes before the measurement, emptying the bladder, and avoiding tight clothing. He stressed the need for validated, calibrated devices and the correct manschetten size. Additionally, he suggested measuring both arms initially and using the arm with the higher reading for subsequent measurements. After the measurement, he advised documenting all values and any notable circumstances. Regular home monitoring is crucial for early detection and management of hypertension.

Dr. Tartaglione's visit to LN studios served as a reminder of the silent threat of high blood pressure and the importance of regular, accurate measurements. His detailed guidelines ensure precise readings, helping individuals and healthcare professionals manage hypertension effectively. Anyone concerned about their blood pressure should consult a healthcare provider for personalized advice.
