Cheerleading Accident Leaves 14-Year-Old Facing Long Recovery
A cheerleading accident at Hutchinson High School has left 14-year-old Jocelyn Treaster with severe injuries. She was hospitalized and is now facing a long road to recovery.
On August 19, 2025, during a cheerleading practice, Treaster was hit in the head twice while performing a stunt. A teammate landed on her head, and another's foot struck the back of her head. Initially assessed by an athletic trainer, she was sent home but could no longer walk by the time she arrived. Treaster was then rushed to the hospital, where she stayed for three days.
Since the accident, Treaster has been seeing concussion specialists, physical therapists, and a chiropractor. More than a month later, she suddenly lost feeling in her legs during a church service. Her family fears she may never walk again and has raised concerns about safety measures at the school. They believe more could have been done to prevent the accident. The family is also questioning whether floor mats were required during practice, as the Kansas State High School Activities Association permits stunts without mats under certain conditions. Coach Joe Willis was leading the practice when the accident occurred.
A GoFundMe page has been established to help the Treaster family with medical bills and travel expenses. Jocelyn's future remains uncertain, but her family is determined to support her through her recovery journey.
