The UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön is set to host a free resilience training program for children aged 8 to 11, starting on August 13, 2025. This unique initiative combines modern pedagogy with immersive nature experiences, offering a holistic approach to building emotional resilience and self-confidence.

Held every Wednesday from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM for ten weeks, the training will take place on the foal pasture in Hofbieber. The program aims to help children find calm, experience community, and rediscover their own selves in a natural environment.

The resilience training employs evidence-based learning methods focused on emotional strength and self-confidence. Modern pedagogical techniques such as experiential learning, mindfulness training, group activities, storytelling, and reflection exercises are used to foster emotional awareness, coping skills, and self-regulation.

Direct engagement with nature is a key element of the training. Children will be encouraged to explore the Rhön Biosphere Reserve’s forests, meadows, and hills, where connection with nature is scientifically shown to boost mental well-being, reduce stress, and encourage mindfulness.

Through guided experiences like nature exploration, team challenges, and creative expression, children will develop emotional skills such as recognizing and managing feelings, problem-solving, and social cooperation. The training also includes cooperative games that foster a sense of community.

The training is explicitly aimed at children in challenging life situations, without being a therapeutic program. It will be led by two experienced course leaders, including Vera Erb, whose contact information is 0177 5096608 and [email protected].

For further information and registration, interested parties can visit the official website of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön at www.biosphaerenreservat-rhoen.de. Vera Erb emphasizes that she sees resources in every child waiting to be seen and strengthened.

Participation in the resilience training is free, but places are limited, so early registration is recommended. The training includes reflection rounds for expressing feelings, trust-building rituals that provide security and structure, and awareness exercises and movement offerings that contribute to stress management.
