In a recent development, the sanitary and epidemiological control committee in Kazakhstan has taken action against certain snack products due to concerns about their safety and compliance with technical regulations.

The committee's action follows a mass poisoning incident in the Akmola region, where schoolchildren were affected by snacks of questionable origin. As a precautionary measure, the committee is conducting activities to ban the import and sale of these snacks.

During an inspection of 1500 stores selling these products, 14 samples were purchased for laboratory testing. The results revealed that the snacks contain flavor enhancers not established by the requirements of the technical regulations, including monosodium glutamate (E621), disodium guanylate (E627), and disodium inosinate (E631).

Notifications have been sent to trading entities about the need for a mandatory declaration of conformity and marking according to technical regulations. Residents are encouraged to pay attention to the label of the packaging, marking of the product, where the name, composition, date of manufacture, expiration date, and storage conditions should be indicated.

However, the packaging of the snacks does not contain this essential information, such as the name of the product, quantitative composition, nutritional and energy value, date of manufacture and expiration date, storage conditions, the location of the manufacturer, the importer organization, or information about the presence of GMOs.

Residents are warned to avoid ordering imported food products of questionable origin from different marketplaces, as there is a risk of purchasing goods that have not undergone the necessary quality and safety control. Instead, it is advised to purchase goods from trusted trading points.

Excessive consumption of products containing these flavor enhancers can cause allergic reactions, digestive disorders, heartburn, and regular overeating leading to obesity. Therefore, it is crucial to be vigilant about the food we consume, especially when it comes to imported products.

While the specific snack products involved in the mass poisoning incident or the regions affected have not been directly detailed in the search results, it is essential to stay informed about local news, health ministry announcements, or international food safety alerts covering Kazakhstan for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

  1. The sanitary and epidemiological control committee, concerned about the safety of certain snack products, is planning to ban their import and sale due to non-compliance with technical regulations, following a mass poisoning incident in the Akmola region.
  2. In light of the lack of essential labeling information on questionable imported snack products, it is crucial for residents of Kazakhstan to be vigilant about the food they consume and purchase goods only from trusted trading points to avoid potential health risks.
