Consultation Initiative WOMI: Domicile, Accommodation, and Social Integration
In the heart of Germany, the city of Freiburg has launched a new initiative to provide targeted support for individuals who have recently migrated or are at risk of homelessness. The project, named "Housing - Homelessness - Migration - Integration" (WOMI), is a joint venture between the Office for Migration and Integration and the Office for Social Affairs.
The WOMI project is funded through the federal program EhAP Plus by the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, and also receives funding from the European Social Fund Plus (ESF Plus). The city administration of Hannover also contributes financially to the project.
The WOMI project offers a range of assistance to those in need. This includes help with applying for a housing entitlement certificate, managing rental debts, finding employment, securing health insurance, resolving conflicts in temporary accommodations, and addressing legal questions in both social and immigration law.
The project's primary goal is to advise, accompany, and connect those affected with existing support structures. The WOMI team will seek direct contact in temporary accommodations, emergency shelters, day centers, or counseling services. Open office hours are held at the Office for Migration and Integration (Berliner Allee 1) on Mondays from 1 to 4 pm and Fridays from 9 am to 12 pm, and at the OASE - Center for homeless people (Haslacher Straße 11) on Fridays from 9 am to 11:30 am. The team can also be reached by phone at 0761/201-3219 or by email at [email protected].
The WOMI project is aimed at migrants from the EU who have good prospects for reintegration into the housing and job market. The city administration emphasizes that it's important that those affected can access counseling easily and without barriers.
As the new school year begins, the educational level in Baden-Württemberg is under scrutiny. However, the WOMI project is focused on immediate needs, offering a lifeline to those who are most vulnerable.
Mayors play a crucial role in the development of metropolitan areas, and the launch of the WOMI project in Freiburg is a testament to the city's commitment to supporting its diverse community. For more information about the WOMI project, visit www.freiburg.de/womi.
