Customs, police, and food inspection authorities collaborate for joint enforcement actions at food establishments and kiosks in Rheda-Wiedenbrück
In a shocking revelation, the Bielefeld Customs Office, along with several other authorities, conducted a joint control action last Friday in multiple catering establishments and kiosks in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. The goal of this action was to uncover violations and crimes within the authorities' jurisdictions.
During the action, an Asian small snack bar in Rheda-Wiedenbrück was found to have highly unhygienic conditions. Mouse droppings were discovered, and a living space was set up in the kitchen. The most concerning finding was the use of a foul-smelling bathtub to treat noodles.
In addition to these unsanitary practices, employees in the Asian snack bar were insufficiently trained in hygiene in the food-processing catering industry. Missing escape routes and fire extinguishers were also criticized in the affected catering establishments.
Several immediate notification violations regarding social security and disregard for alien law regulations were found in the inspected fast-food outlets. Compliance with the obligation to carry identity documents has significantly improved compared to the first cooperative control in April of this year.
Several restaurants had structural changes, with what was once a staff washroom being converted into a sleeping area. Further inspections will ensure that the shortcomings found in the restaurant are addressed, and follow-up inspections will be conducted as part of the housing inspection.
The Bielefeld Customs Office, which is the source of this information, transmitted via news aktuell, can be contacted for inquiries at Ralf Wagenfeld, telephone: (0521) 3047-1095, email: [email protected], and website: www.zoll.de.
In another restaurant, mouse droppings were visible, and a pest controller must now visit the restaurant. The Bielefeld Customs Office will continue to bundle their respective jurisdictions with other authorities for future joint control actions in the Rheda-Wiedenbrück area.
The public is reminded of the importance of carrying identity documents in sectors affected by black work, such as the catering industry. The Bielefeld Customs Office will continue to work towards ensuring the safety and hygiene of the food served in Rheda-Wiedenbrück.
