Driver's Fatal Heart Attack Causes Multi-Vehicle Crash on A9

A tragic traffic accident occurred on the A9 motorway near Berlin on Monday morning. A 56-year-old driver from Leipzig suffered a fatal heart attack while driving a Volkswagen Tiguan, leading to a collision with two other vehicles.

The accident involved a total of three cars. The Volkswagen Tiguan, after the driver lost consciousness, initially collided with a Ford S-Max. The passenger in the Ford sustained minor injuries, but no other personal injuries were reported.

The Volkswagen Tiguan then veered left and struck a 1-series BMW before coming to rest half on the hard shoulder. The vehicles sustained a combined damage of approximately 20,000 euros. The Volkswagen Tiguan was deemed no longer roadworthy and had to be towed away.

The accident happened between the Lederhose and Hermsdorf South junctions around 10:50 AM. The Berlin-bound lane was closed for medical assistance and road cleaning until 12:15 PM.

The 56-year-old driver of the Volkswagen Tiguan sadly passed away at the scene despite immediate first aid and resuscitation efforts. The cause of the accident was determined to be the driver's sudden heart attack. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of regular health check-ups for drivers.
