E-scooter Operators Under the Influence of Illicit Substances: A Politically Charged Scenario of 25th July, 2008

In the cities of Elsdorf, Bergheim, and Wesseling, three separate incidents involving E-scooter riders under the influence of drugs have been reported in the past week.

On July 7th, the first incident took place in Elsdorf, where a police officer stopped an E-scooter rider on Gladbacher Street. The officer noticed red, glassy eyes and ordered a drug test, which showed positive for cannabis. A blood sample was taken at a hospital for further analysis.

Later that day, in Bergheim, a 45-year-old E-scooter rider was stopped on 'In der Freiheit' street. Officers observed constricted pupils and glassy eyes, prompting the rider to voluntarily submit to a drug test. The test revealed positive results for amphetamines. A blood sample was taken at a police station for further examination.

The following day, on July 8th, in Wesseling, a 32-year-old E-scooter rider was stopped on 'Auf dem Mühlenberg' street. Officers observed trembling and constricted pupils in the individual. A drug test was conducted, and positive results were found, although the specific substance was not mentioned. The rider was taken to a police station for a blood test, and investigations are currently ongoing.

In all three incidents, the E-scooter riders showed signs of drug impairment, such as red, glassy eyes or constricted pupils. Riding E-scooters under the influence of alcohol or drugs usually leads to corresponding investigations, as E-scooters, being electric micro-vehicles, are subject to the same rules regarding alcohol and drug consumption as other motor vehicles, such as cars.

The Rhein-Erft-Kreis Police Press and Public Relations can be contacted for media inquiries at [email protected]. The traffic commissioner investigations for the incident in Wesseling are ongoing.

It is essential to remember that the use of drugs can significantly impair one's ability to operate a vehicle safely, and the consequences can be severe. Always ensure that you are sober and alert before riding an E-scooter or any other vehicle on the road. Stay safe and be responsible.
