Suspects Arrested in Cascais for Burglaries Targeting Vulnerable Residents

A couple, both aged 49 and 44, have been arrested in Cascais, Portugal, on suspicion of committing multiple burglaries and thefts targeting vulnerable individuals. The crimes, which took place over the summer of 2024, involved robbing homes with the intent to steal valuables such as gold.

According to a statement made by the Public Security Police (PSP) on Friday, one notable robbery took place on September 6, 2024, involving an elderly or ill victim. The suspect approached the victim while she was on her way to her residence and attempted to steal a gold chain worth approximately 15,000 euros. However, the robbery attempt failed, and the suspect and the victim fled to an unknown location.

The suspects, who are drug addicts and undergoing treatment, were taken to the detention cells of the COMETLIS. After being present at their first judicial interrogation, they were released and ordered to report weekly to the Cascais Public Ministry.

The PSP has been actively pursuing such cases in Cascais, including these specific burglaries against vulnerable residents. The suspects used their professional relationship with the victims to deceive them and steal pieces of gold. They worked at a social support institution in Cascais.

The police are still conducting investigations to determine the owners of some of the recovered gold pieces. One gold chain worth approximately 15,000 euros was seized during the investigation.

It is important to note that the earlier mentioned facts do not provide details about a separate incident involving an establishment being violently attacked for a mobile phone.

The arrests were reported in 2025 based on investigations into these incidents. One suspect was arrested in Azambuja and the other in Fátima, in compliance with arrest warrants issued by the Judicial Authority. The suspects are suspected of committing a total of one robbery and five qualified burglaries.

The crimes targeted individuals in the municipality of Cascais. In one instance, the suspect tried to gain access to the interior of the residence through deception but failed. The victims were targeted due to their vulnerability, often being elderly or ill individuals.

The PSP encourages anyone with information regarding these crimes or any other similar incidents to come forward and report it to the authorities.

  • The arrests of the suspects, despite their background in health-and-wellness, as they were undergoing treatment for drug addiction, were made in connection with a series of crime-and-justice incidents in Cascais, Portugal, where they allegedly targeted vulnerable residents for burglaries and thefts, with one attempted robbery involving a gold chain worth approximately 15,000 euros.
  • The general-news this year also saw an incident where an establishment was violently attacked for a mobile phone, but it seems that this incident is not connected to the aforementioned crimes.
  • These crime-and-justice incidents in Cascais have highlighted the importance of mental health, as the suspects reportedly used their professional relationship with the victims to deceive them, which underscores the need for increased awareness and vigilance, particularly for vulnerable individuals in the health-and-wellness sector.
