Expansion of the care network is underway
In a collaborative effort between the district authority and the Alzheimer Society of Nuremberg, a training session was held on June 4, 2025, for caregivers aiming to provide daily support services. Over 30 participants from the county and the city of Landshut attended the session, which was conducted by Renate Frischhut.
The training, held in accordance with § 45a SGB XI, focused on providing services for elderly people who may have physical limitations. Two-thirds of the training time was dedicated to "Dealing with people in need of care and with dementia." Topics covered included interacting with a neighbor or relative with dementia, communication methods, and appropriate helper attitude.
The goal of the training was to relieve family caregivers and help elderly individuals stay in their familiar homes while being well taken care of. Support with household management was explored, including hygiene and cleaning, nutrition and provisions, and accident prevention. The training provided practical tips and implementation strategies for daily support services.
Household services and daily companionship are included in the daily support services. These services can be provided by professional service providers or volunteer individuals. The care insurance funds offer a monthly relief allowance of 131 euros for these services.
Elisabeth Strasser, the county's senior representative, thanked the trainer and participants for their commitment in the field of daily companionship. She was pleased that the support network for older people in the county had become closer due to the training. A repeat of the training offer for the coming year has been announced due to high demand from both helpers and those seeking help.
The training session was designed to equip helpers, both volunteer and non-volunteer, with the necessary skills to support and accompany those in need. It aimed to help elderly individuals with psychological and geriatric psychiatric illnesses, such as dementia. Daily support services are invaluable when household management and daily tasks become challenging due to physical limitations.
The training method conducted by Renate Frischhut involved educating both voluntary and professional helpers in interacting with residents suffering from dementia and communicating with them effectively. The session was a testament to the importance of continuous learning and support for caregivers, ensuring they can provide the best possible care for those in need.
