Revisited Reflections
Karin Tietze-Ludwig (83), the "Lotto queen," has faced more than one storm in her life. Her strong spirit and resilience have carried her through her toughest trials.
Frankfurt am Main - For three decades, Karin Tietze-Ludwig graced our screens as the enchanting figure who delivered the lottery numbers. In 1998, she decided to step away from the spotlight to devote more time to her family. Little did she know, her life was about to take an unexpected turn.
The "Lotto queen" takes on cancer
On January 17, 1998, Tietze-Ludwig announced the lottery numbers for the last time on camera. At the age of 56, she retired, ready to embrace a normal life as a housewife. With her husband Hans-Jürgen Tietze (†72), she yearned to explore the world. Unfortunately, fate had other plans.
Just three years after her television departure, Hans-Jürgen's health started to deteriorate due to chronic pancreatitis. The couple's last adventure to Asia was cut short by his sudden illness. In an interview, Tietze-Ludwig shared her regret and loss, feeling as if her life had turned upside down.
A new chapter begins
Following her husband's death, Karin Tietze-Ludwig retreated from public life, sinking into a deep sorrow. However, she learned to appreciate life once more and emerged stronger than ever. In 2007, she made a triumphant return as the "Lotto queen" for an SAT.1 show. Now, with radiant blonde hair cascading down her shoulders, Karin Tietze-Ludwig revels in the approach of her 84th birthday.
Two years ago, she disclosed her battle against breast cancer, which she fought valiantly in 1998. Today, she speaks candidly about her experience. That time marked the most challenging period of her life, she says. "I don't know if I would have survived without it." In 2024, she was spotted on the red carpet, arm-in-arm with her successor Franziska Reichenbacher (source: Welt, Myillu issue 4/25).
