Four individuals, including a pregnant student, find themselves stuck in an elevator

In a surprising turn of events, four students, including one who is seven months pregnant, found themselves trapped in a malfunctioning lift at a college in Phatthalung, Thailand, on Tuesday at 11.20am.

The incident occurred between the first and second floors of a building on the college campus. The lift stalled, leaving the students stranded. In a desperate move, the students called local rescue services for help.

Upon arrival, Phatthalung rescue officers learned of the gravity of the situation, with one of the trapped individuals being pregnant. However, staff at the college intervened, preventing the rescuers from intervening in the malfunctioning lift. Their concern was that the rescuers might damage the lift equipment.

This obstruction caused a delay in the students' rescue. Fortunately, a designated lift technician from the college arrived about 30 minutes later. It took him around 10 minutes to fix the malfunctioning lift, freeing the students without injury.

The pregnant student's mother arrived at the scene, visibly distressed. The incident sparked questions about the college's priorities, with one lecturer questioning why property was being prioritized over human safety.

It is worth noting that the same lift had a history of frequent malfunctions, raising concerns about the college's maintenance practices. The college has not yet issued any statement regarding the incident or the future safety measures to be implemented.

In response to the emergency situation, rescue workers contacted a hospital lift technician for assistance, demonstrating their commitment to the students' safety despite the initial obstacles. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing safety measures in all public spaces.

  1. A concerned lecturer questioned the college's priorities after the incident, considering that the malfunctioning lift had a history of frequent malfunctions and one of the trapped students was seven months pregnant, representing women's health and science (medical) issues.
  2. Despite the initial obstacles from college staff, rescue workers showed their dedication to the students' safety by contacting a hospital lift technician for assistance, underscoring the significance of health-and-wellness in such emergencies.
