Gearing up to combat the sweltering summer heat, Hamm vows to publish its Heat Action Plan (HAP) this year. last fall, the city launched a survey on heat-related issues in Hamm, with over 390 participants. The results? A staggering 87% felt the increasing heat was a burden, and a nerve-wracking 93% dreaded more heatwaves. Joining the throng were the home thermometers handed out to interested households last year, allowing them to gauge the home heat for several months. These findings will definitely be a part of the HAP set to be completed by 2025, pending approval from the city council.
Prepping Hamm for the Heat Wave This Summer
No need to wait for the final HAP—the city's already working on emergency measures to help locals beat the heat this summer. Enter the water fountain on the market square, and the "Cool Spots Map" that highlights publicly accessible, shaded or air-conditioned spots throughout the city like parks, water bodies, churches, or libraries. On June 24, 2025, from 10 am to 12 pm, an event on the market square during the Digital Days will unveil the "Cool Spots Map," and collect suggestions for improvements.
