Highlighting the EIOH Resident: Dr. Kevin Winegar in the Limelight

Dr. Kevin Winegar, DDS, has achieved significant milestones in his career as a periodontist. After completing his residency in the esteemed EIOH Periodontics Residency Program, he is set to join Dr. Chris Leja in private practice in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The EIOH residency was a transformative experience for Dr. Winegar. He credits Dr. Ron Lehane, a periodontal faculty from NYU, for inspiring him to pursue a career in periodontics. The programme not only allowed him to continue his education but also fostered a sense of professionalism.

During his tenure, Dr. Winegar made friends that he will keep in contact with for life. His best memory from the residency was getting married to his wife, Connie Yoon Winegar, during COVID restrictions in their dining room. Dr. Nasser Assery officiated the wedding, and Dr. Maria El-Hussani was the witness.

Dr. Winegar's clinical and didactic knowledge significantly improved during his residency, making him feel confident and successful. He believes a periodontal probe is essential for a periodontal resident.

In addition to his accomplishments in the EIOH residency, Dr. Winegar presented a poster at the American Association of Periodontics annual meeting in Phoenix, Arizona, and at Europerio in Copenhagen, Denmark.

As he embarks on his next journey, Dr. Winegar plans to travel and explore Japan, Southeast Asia, and Europe with his wife. Despite his upcoming travels, he has no plans to change anything about himself. His favourite part of Rochester, where the residency was based, is the ease of living.

Dr. Winegar looks forward to the challenges and opportunities that await him in private practice and cherishes the memories and experiences he gained during his EIOH residency.

Science played a crucial role in Dr. Winegar's personal and professional growth during his residency, influencing his decisions in both health-and-wellness and his career as a periodontist. His educational advancement aided in the perfecting of his clinical skills, making him more confident and successful, especially with the use of a periodontal probe.
