Influencer alleges rival's attempt to pilfer her fitness concepts, yet learns his intention was far from plagiarism.
Competition isn't always a bad thing, especially when it comes to love and business. That's the story of Heidi Somers and Christian Guzman, two fitness powerhouses from Houston, Texas.
Heidi and Christian found themselves locked in a professional rivalry, each promoting their own brands at fitness expos across the country. But little did Heidi know, Christian had a very different goal in mind - winning her heart.
Christian started grilling Heidi about her female athletic clothing line, Buffbunny Collection. Heidi, initially suspicious, thought he was trying to swipe her secrets to success. Her assistant even went so far as to strip all business notes from the boards, just in case.
However, it turned out that Christian was far more interested in dating Heidi than her business secrets. Heidi eventually gave in and went on a date with Christian eight years ago. She admits that the 'healthy competition' between them made him all the more attractive.
The pair, now a power couple, regularly enjoy work 'date nights' that help them rake in more cash. Heidi calls them 'a power couple' and says they lean on each other for support, giving each other insider notes instead of competing fiercely.
While it may seem like a recipe for disaster, the pair makes it work by defining clear roles, aligning on shared goals, and maintaining a humorous, lighthearted dynamic. They also compartmentalize their relationship, sharing aspects of it in a curated manner to create boundaries.
And even though they both serve as CEOs, Heidi admits that it can be a struggle to switch between being the alpha woman and being a wife. They've managed to find a balance, though, by maintaining separate offices and focusing on fun and flirtation during their downtime.
Despite the challenges, Heidi and Christian are going strong eight years later and love their companies. So, maybe there's something to be said for a little friendly competition in love and business.

Heidi said, "Being competitive is attractive. The way he got me to go on a date with him was he would ask me about business. I wasn't interested at the time. But he started asking me questions about business. I started answering him back and it did naturally fall into a really great conversation."
