Bundeswehr Investigates Allegations of Misconduct at Parachute Regiment in Zweibrücken

The Bundeswehr is currently investigating a series of allegations that surfaced during the celebration of the parachute regiment in Zweibrücken's tenth anniversary in late August. More than 10,000 people attended the event held at the Niederauerbach barracks, but the celebration ended in controversy.

According to reports, allegations of drug abuse, sexual assaults, and extremism were made during the celebration. Some comrades were photographed while showering during the celebration, and more serious incidents occurred, including members of the regiment appearing in Nazi uniforms, giving the Hitler salute, and filming themselves.

The spokesman for the Bundeswehr has asked for understanding to avoid endangering or influencing the investigations. He emphasized that violence, sexism, and extremism have no place in the Bundeswehr. The public prosecutor's office in Zweibrücken has reported several recent cases, but details were not provided.

As a result of the incidents, more than 20 soldiers have been dismissed from service. The company commander was among those dismissed, leading to the unit being disbanded. The search results do not provide the name of the company commander who was discharged from service between August and September.

The commander of the parachute regiment in Zweibrücken stated that there are not enough positions to train parachute jumpers at the moment. However, he noted that many individuals are interested in joining the regiment. The regiment is very popular, and there are no issues finding personnel.

The Bundeswehr has confirmed that the incident is known but cannot provide details due to ongoing investigations. Private mobile phones were seized and checked during a raid by the state criminal office. The Bundeswehr is currently investigating every individual case thoroughly and consistently.

The spokesman for the Bundeswehr also emphasized that soldiers and civilian employees are expected to actively stand up for the liberal democratic order, protect it, and show a clear stance against all endangering tendencies. The Bundeswehr will act accordingly if this is not the case.

In a previous incident, a former soldier testified in court about sexual harassment among the parachute regiment in Zweibrücken. This is not the first time investigations have occurred among the regiment.

The Bundeswehr has not provided any new information about the dismissal of more than 20 soldiers or the disbanding of a unit due to the incidents. The Bundeswehr urges the public to wait for the results of the ongoing investigations before drawing any conclusions.
