Introduced Successfully: Innovative 'Elderly Cycling' Program in Borken County - More Dates Announced Soon

The Borken district and the local police have introduced a new senior cycling program aimed at promoting safety and prevention in the area. This innovative initiative, which focuses on the highest ownership rate of pedelecs nationwide in the district, was officially launched today in Gronau.

The senior cycling program is designed to combine the joy of cycling with practical tips for accident prevention. The event, organized by the Traffic Division of the Borken Circular Police Department, is limited to a maximum of twelve participants to ensure a more personalized experience.

During the program, critical traffic situations are made directly tangible in practice and discussed together with experts. By jointly driving typical danger situations, the knowledge remains better anchored in everyday life.

Dr. Kai Zwicker, District Administrator, welcomed the participants personally at the kick-off event. Police officers provided tips on behavior at intersections and roundabouts, the correct use of cycle paths, and the importance of helmets, lights, and roadworthy equipment.

The police chief who participated at the start of the senior cycling event in Kreis Borken is named Dirk Hüing. More information about the senior cycling program can be found on the website of the Borken Circular Police Department (https://borken.polizei.nrw).

The organizers of the senior cycling program are pleased with the success of the kick-off and invite all interested seniors to mark the upcoming dates in their calendars. The dates for the senior cycling program in the year 2025 will be announced shortly, with the dates for 2026 to be published by the police at the beginning of the coming year.

The route guidance is oriented towards the current accident hotspots in the district.

By participating in the senior cycling program, seniors can not only enjoy a fun and engaging cycling experience but also learn valuable skills to help them stay safe on the roads.
