Introducing the Fresh Duo of Mental Health Advocates, Known as "Little Monsters", and Their Creator in the Artistic Field

Artist Syd Evans has expressed gratitude to everyone who submitted ideas for the Little Monsters concept contest. After a thorough evaluation process, Evans has chosen two winners for the competition, marking the introduction of two new monsters to the series.

The Little Monsters series, created by Evans, is a collection of four illustrations that embody various mental health challenges. The debut of the new monsters will take place at Made in ALX at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20.

Evans shared that choosing just one design to bring to life was not an easy task. Reading through the contest entries was deeply moving, as many contestants shared personal experiences and emotions. The four original monsters in the series are ADHD, body dysmorphia, hyperfocus, and depression. The two new monsters will represent anxiety and social anxiety.

The monsters in the series do not inflict mental health conditions onto someone; instead, they experience and embody them. The monsters are not intended to be scary but rather serve as relatable and comforting representations of mental health challenges.

Each submission in the contest was thoughtful, creative, and powerful, making the selection process challenging for Evans. The goal of the series is to create "little monsters" that represent a mental health condition, providing a unique and engaging way to discuss and understand these issues.

Evans is adding more monsters to the series this spring, continuing the conversation around mental health and offering a fresh perspective on these often challenging topics. The debut of the new monsters at Made in ALX promises to be an inspiring event, shedding light on the importance of open dialogue about mental health.
