Kazakhstan Launches Month-Long Celebration for Elderly, Boosts Pensions
A month-long celebration of the Day of the Elderly has kicked off in Kazakhstan, starting on October 1. This event, which runs until October 31, aims to honour and support the country's elderly population, numbering over 2.5 million pensioners.
The event is organised by regional governors, enterprise leaders, and organisation heads who will provide social support to elderly residents. While the name of the regional governor in a specific district remains unknown, the initiative is a significant show of solidarity.
The Month of the Elderly coincides with an 8.5% increase in solidarity pensions since January 1. Looking ahead, the minimum base pension is set to reach 70% of the living wage by 2025, and the maximum base pension will rise to 110% of the living wage in the same year. To facilitate this, 7.5 billion tenge has been allocated from local budgets for the operation of 127 active longevity centres by 2025.
Throughout the event, meetings in work collectives and open door days in outpatient clinics are planned to engage and assist the elderly. The Month of the Elderly, coupled with the planned pension increases, demonstrates Kazakhstan's commitment to supporting its senior citizens.
