Kenya reports 314 Mpox infections across 22 regions
Kenya Continues to Battle Monkeypox Outbreak
As of August 2025, Kenya has reported a total of 314 cases and five deaths due to Monkeypox (Mpox) since July 2024 [1][2][3][4][5]. The outbreak, which has affected individuals across 22 counties, continues to pose a public health challenge in the country.
The most affected regions include Mombasa, with 146 cases, followed by Busia (63), Nakuru (21), Kilifi (19), and Nairobi (17) [2]. Currently, at least 33 patients are admitted to various health facilities, while 54 are under home-based isolation and care [3].
To combat the spread of Mpox, the Kenyan Ministry of Health has urged the public to take preventive measures. These include avoiding close contact with suspected or confirmed cases, practicing safe sex, and reporting symptoms early [3][5]. Additionally, the public has been advised to seek immediate medical attention if they suspect they have been exposed to Mpox [4].
The government has also emphasised the importance of personal hygiene and sanitation, urging people to avoid sharing personal items, clothing, or bedding with infected individuals [4]. Furthermore, more than 4.7 million travelers have been screened at airports and other entry points to prevent the introduction and spread of Mpox [6].
In response to the outbreak, mental health and psychosocial services are being provided for those affected by Mpox [7]. The Ministry of Health continues to monitor the situation closely and has reported four additional Mpox cases in the last 24 hours, three in Mombasa County and one in Nairobi County [8].
Despite the ongoing cases and fatalities, there is some positive news. A total of 222 patients have recovered from Mpox [2]. However, 422 contacts of positive Mpox cases have been identified, highlighting the need for continued vigilance and adherence to preventive measures [3].
