LaVAR Ball sighted for the first time on a walk using a prosthetic leg, following his foot amputation.
In the world of basketball, the Ball family has made a significant impact, especially with the rise of the Ball brothers. Led by patriarch LaVar Ball, the family burst onto the national scene in the mid-2010s with their pro careers and the Big Baller Brand.
The oldest of the Ball brothers, Lonzo Ball, was taken second overall by the Lakers in the 2017 NBA draft. Meanwhile, LaMelo Ball, the youngest, was drafted third overall in the 2020 NBA draft. Currently, two of the brothers, Lonzo and LaMelo, play in the NBA.
LaVar Ball's journey, however, has not been without its challenges. In March, he spoke about his life-threatening complications from diabetes, which eventually led to the amputation of his right leg below the knee. The procedure involved the removal of a couple of toes, his foot, and almost up to his knee.
In an interview with SLAM Magazine, LaVar expressed his gratitude towards the staff at the Hanger Clinic for their role in his recovery. He also credited his three sons for keeping him going and believing during this difficult time.
LaVar's resilience has been evident in his public statements. He stated, "Big Baller is back baby, yes indeed," and expressed his confidence in his ability to move quickly on his new prosthetic leg. BigBallerBrand's Instagram shared a video of LaVar moving confidently on his new leg, further demonstrating his determination.
While LaMelo's career earnings are approaching $240 million by the time his Charlotte Hornets contract ends in 2028, LaVar's son LiAngelo did not make it in the NBA. However, he has found success in music. His single "Tweaker" became a viral hit and a locker-room favourite across the country.
Over his career, Lonzo Ball has made nearly $113 million. Despite the ups and downs, the Ball family's pursuit of pro basketball careers and the Big Baller Brand has made them a significant presence in the national basketball scene.
LaVar Ball's comments about his sons were often brash and over the top, but he wasn't exactly off the mark. His unwavering belief in his sons' talents has been a driving force in their success. As LaVar continues to recover and support his family, his story serves as an inspiration for many.
