Medical researcher challenges inconsistent claims regarding COVID-19
In a recent interview on Deutschlandfunk, medical statistician Gerd Antes expressed concerns about the lack of control instruments due to insufficient data collection and studies during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Antes, based in Freiburg, claimed that a lockdown is being imposed, and the summer was wasted to get more precise information about what works and what doesn't.
The interview was accompanied by a photo shared via the dts News Agency, which depicted an individual wearing a protective mask in an unidentified subway system. Antes stated that the range of statements is an extreme disorientation for the population, who are constantly confronted with contradictory statements or overwhelmed.
Communication scientist Marcus Maurer also criticized the information policy during the Corona crisis, finding the media coverage largely one-sided and overly cautious ('Team Precaution'). Maurer argued that this uniformity, while reflecting the urgent need to address major problems, is problematic because normally a diverse reporting is desired.
Antes further emphasized the need for differentiated actions instead of a light lockdown, stating that the current light lockdown is a completely normal lockdown for some people. He urged for more targeted measures to effectively combat the spread of the virus while minimizing the impact on society and the economy.
The photo, taken in a subway, was shared on Saturday, but the date it was taken is not provided. The identities of the individuals in the photo remain unknown. Despite these uncertainties, Antes's comments and the accompanying photo serve as a stark reminder of the challenges and complexities faced in managing the ongoing pandemic.
