Prosecutor's Office and Police Headquarters of Bielefeld announce attempted murder investigation involving MK Luise in Steinhagen
In an unprecedented incident, a 30-year-old man from Steinhagen, who holds Syrian citizenship, found himself in a critical condition following a confrontation with the police.
The drama unfolded on Thursday afternoon, when the police headquarters in Gütersloh received a report of a disturbance within the man's family. The man, known to be drug-dependent, allegedly inflicted bodily harm on his family members.
Upon arrival, the man resisted arrest, attacking officers with his fists, a knife, and a garden rake. Despite his injuries, he continued to resist, prompting the use of firearms to subdue him.
The man retreated into a house after the initial encounter, and special forces were called in for a qualified arrest. The situation escalated further when, at 20:35, the man attacked an officer with a knife. The use of firearms during the incident is now being reviewed by the responsible public prosecutor's office.
The attack was stopped, and the man was taken to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. Initially, his injuries were deemed life-threatening, but his condition has since stabilised.
