Revamped Senior Affairs Department Established in Maisach
In the picturesque town of Maisach, Germany, a significant change is on the horizon. The local government has announced plans to establish a senior work position, aimed at addressing the growing needs of the town's senior population.
The position, which is expected to be a full-time role, will be funded for up to four years, with the possibility of project funding coming later. The funding could cover up to 70% of personnel and project-related costs for the first three years, and 60% in the fourth year.
Mayor Seidl considers this senior work position to be a mandatory role, and the ideal candidate should have a background in social work, care sciences/management, or gerontology. The role will involve intensively dealing with local conditions to offer tailor-made solutions for districts (district management), as well as home visits and advice for seniors.
The budget for the senior work position in the Maisach town hall is approximately 80,000 euros per year. The application for funding for this position will be submitted to the State Office for Care.
The senior worker will have a six-month familiarisation period before diving into their duties. Once the funding agency's approval has been obtained, the position can be advertised. Realistically, the senior work position could be filled as early as March 1, 2026.
In addition to the senior work position, the town of Maisach is also exploring the concept of caring communities. These small-scale help and support networks involve municipalities, professional providers of social services, and local residents. The aim is to address social issues jointly across generations in these communities.
The State Office for Care's funding program, called GutePflegeFör, aims to strengthen care in social neighbourhoods. However, the details of the caring communities in Maisach are not yet specified.
As the town prepares to welcome its first senior worker, it's clear that Maisach is taking active steps to meet the needs of its growing senior population and create a more supportive community for all its residents.
