Revealed: Unsettling Home Scenarios Attributable to Indian Expatriates in the UAE Under Fresh Investigation

The Indian Association Sharjah (IAS) has launched a new initiative, R.I.S.E., to address family disputes, mental health crises, and addiction cases among Indian expats in Sharjah. This initiative was introduced following two tragic suicides of Kerala women, aiming to provide timely intervention and support to those facing severe domestic challenges.

R.I.S.E functions collaboratively with the Sharjah Police’s Community Preventive and Protection Department and the Consulate General of India in Dubai, creating a coordinated support network for distressed individuals.

Family Disputes and Communication Breakdowns

One of the key focus areas of R.I.S.E is handling family disputes, especially where emotional neglect, lack of communication, and long-term co-existence without real engagement worsen marital relations. Interestingly, many cases involve couples married for around 10 years rather than newlyweds.

Mental Health Crises and Emotional Isolation

R.I.S.E also supports individuals undergoing mental health crises such as severe depression and suicidal tendencies. For example, the initiative aided a Kerala woman teacher on the brink of suicide by engaging with her and her husband in counseling sessions, addressing emotional isolation and marital breakdown.

Addiction Cases and Social Problems

Addressing addiction cases and other social problems within families is another important aspect of R.I.S.E. These deeper, often hidden struggles behind domestic conflicts among Indian expatriates have been revealed through the initiative.

The R.I.S.E initiative has already shown that Indian expat families face profound issues beyond superficial disagreements—deep emotional wounds, isolation, and complex familial dynamics exacerbated by long-term communication breakdowns. These insights enable tailored interventions to mitigate family crises before they escalate.

R.I.S.E is positioned as a crucial, culturally sensitive platform aimed at creating a safer, supportive environment for the Indian expat community in Sharjah, proactively preventing tragedies related to family discord, mental health, and addiction.

Individuals in distress may contact the association via email at [email protected] or call the IAS office at 06-5610845. Every Saturday from 10 am to 12 pm, counselling sessions are held for registered applicants. Premarital counselling is common, but IAS stresses that post-marital counselling is now the real need of the hour.
