Revolutionary Bone Glue Promises Swift Fracture Healing in China
A team at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital in Hangzhou, China, has developed Bone-02, a revolutionary bone glue promising swift and effective treatment for bone fractures. With approximately 206 bones in the human body, each susceptible to breaks that often require casts or surgery, this innovation could significantly improve healing processes.
Bone-02, capable of holding up to 180 kilograms, gradually dissolves in the body. In trials, it reconnected the bones of a patient with a broken wrist in just three minutes. The patient's fracture healed without issues three months later. Initially, Bone-02 may be used for easily accessible fractures like wrist injuries. The risk of infection is said to be lower with Bone-02 than with metal plates. However, questions remain about its tolerability, application, and long-term effectiveness. Further large, controlled studies are needed to confirm its safety and efficacy.
Bone-02, a promising bone glue developed in China, could revolutionize fracture treatment. With successful initial trials, it offers swift healing and a lower risk of infection. However, more research is needed to ensure its long-term effectiveness and safety.
