Saxon Cochlear Implant Center Transforms 2,500 Lives in 25 Years

The Saxon Cochlear Implant Center at the University Hospital Dresden, established in 1995, has transformed lives with over 2,500 cochlear implant procedures. Today, it treats patients of all ages, from newborns to seniors, providing state-of-the-art hearing solutions.

The center's journey began with Dr. Konstantin Heckschen, its first patient in 1995. Now an ENT doctor himself, Heckschen's success story is a testament to the center's expertise. Over the past two decades, the center has expanded its reach, benefiting more than two-thirds of patients aged 18 to 60 and over 60 in the region.

Modern hearing devices today are a far cry from those in 1995. They are smaller, more robust, and boast improved battery performance. Innovative processing technologies have also enhanced speech understanding in noisy environments, enabling individuals to live with minimal hearing restrictions. The two-year rehabilitation process after activation of the CI processor ensures patients adapt to their new hearing abilities.

Since its inception in 1995, the Saxon Cochlear Implant Center has been at the forefront of hearing healthcare. With over 2,500 lives transformed, it continues to push boundaries, treating patients of all ages, including newborns. Its commitment to innovation and excellence ensures that those with hearing loss can lead fulfilling lives.
