Singer Perrie Edwards makes a powerful comeback on stage following the distress of miscarrying her baby at 24 weeks gestation.
In a heartfelt revelation, Perrie Edwards, former member of the popular girl group Little Mix and fiancée of former England footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, has shared her experiences with miscarriages.
Miscarriages, a topic often not discussed openly, are unfortunately quite common. In the UK alone, at least 250,000 occur every year, and one in every five pregnancies ends in miscarriage. Perrie Edwards has experienced this heartbreak twice, with the first miscarriage occurring early in her pregnancy.
The singer, who is set to release a new single named "If He Wanted To He Would" and a debut solo album, bravely shared her most recent miscarriage as the "worst day of my life." She also spoke about the loss of her baby at 24 weeks, a time when the baby had no heartbeat, as her doctors had informed her.
Despite these challenges, Perrie Edwards remains hopeful. She is blessed to be a mother to her "rainbow baby," Axel, who was born in 2021. Axel is often referred to as a symbol of hope after a loss, as rainbow babies are born after a miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal death.
Perrie Edwards' personal journey has not stopped her from continuing her career. She recently performed at the Come Together Festival in Newcastle, donning a Western-inspired black outfit with silver tassels.
It's important to note that Perrie Edwards is not alone in her experiences. Other common reasons for a pregnancy to fail in the first 24 weeks include ectopic pregnancy and molar pregnancy, both of which are rarer but still significant concerns. Ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants somewhere outside of the womb, usually in a fallopian tube, and cannot survive or grow there. Molar pregnancy, on the other hand, is when a fertilized egg and/or placenta does not develop properly at the start of a pregnancy, with no single reason why it happens and cannot be prevented.
Perrie Edwards' experiences serve as a reminder that pregnancy can be a delicate journey, and it's crucial to prioritize health and well-being. Organisations like Tommy's, a UK-based charity focused on improving pregnancy outcomes and supporting families through pregnancy care, are working tirelessly to monitor and improve maternal and infant health.
As Perrie Edwards continues to navigate her personal and professional life, her resilience and openness about her experiences offer a source of inspiration for many. Her upcoming music is highly anticipated, as fans eagerly await the release of "If He Wanted To He Would" and her debut solo album.
