A Remarkable Journey: The Story of Ruth Wild

Ruth Wild, a 59-year-old woman from Glonn, Ebersberg, has defied the odds and inspired many with her resilience and spirit. Faced with a terminal illness and given only a week to live, Ruth's story is a testament to the unpredictable nature of life and the human spirit.

Initially diagnosed with a salmonella infection in the muscle, possibly from a stubborn mosquito bite, Ruth was eventually transferred to a palliative care unit and later to a hospice. Despite the grim prognosis, Ruth refused to give up.

After spending several weeks in a coma during her hospital stay, Ruth miraculously woke up and continued to surprise everyone with her determination to live. Against all expectations, she survived for more than half a year in hospice care. Her unexpected longevity served as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of medical outcomes.

During her time at the Glonner Hospice Island, Ruth developed a new appreciation for simple pleasures. The birds singing and the sun shining took on a new meaning for her. She enjoyed spending time on the café terrace, savouring Flammkuchen and sweet white wine spritzer with lemon. Even in her weak state, she found joy in these moments.

Ruth also took control of her own end-of-life arrangements. She prepared her own funeral, choosing a birch coffin, the Ave Maria for her funeral, and an urn grave under a tree. Despite her arthritis in her ankle joint, a reminder of her ordeal, Ruth has become more laid-back in her approach to life. When it rains, she turns to crossword puzzles for entertainment.

Ruth's sons arranged a bed for her at the Glonner Hospice Island in the Caritas Marienheim. However, after half a year, instead of dying, Ruth moved out and went on vacation. Her story serves as an inspiring example of endurance and the sometimes mysterious course of serious illnesses. It also reflects on the compassionate support offered in hospice settings, where care goes beyond just medical treatment, encompassing emotional and spiritual support.
