Thousands flock to ADLM 2025 conference for discussions on health risks from plastics, battles against medical deceit, and AI's role in healthcare facilities

From July 27 to 31, 2025, the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM) hosted its annual conference, ADLM 2025, in Chicago. This prestigious event brought together nearly 16,500 laboratory medicine professionals, physicians, research scientists, and business leaders from 110 countries, uniting more than 70,000 clinical laboratory professionals worldwide.

The mission of ADLM is to achieve better health for all through laboratory medicine. This year's conference was no exception, as it fostered scientific collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the development of innovative solutions that enhance health outcomes.

Highlights of ADLM 2025

The conference featured five plenary talks, covering a wide range of topics. Dr. Heidi Rehm opened the event with a discussion on the integration of genomic insights into clinical decision-making. On Tuesday, Timothy Caulfield presented on misinformation affecting health policies and suggested ways to push back against it. Dr. Judy Wawira Gichoya spoke on Monday about barriers to the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare, while Dr. Leonardo Trasande delved into the emerging science on PFAS in today's closing keynote. On Wednesday, Dr. Jack Gilbert discussed the impact of the microbiome on health, multi-omic approaches, AI techniques, and personalized medicine.

Revolutionizing Diagnostics with AI and Automation

One of the key takeaways from ADLM 2025 was the convergence of AI, advanced biomarkers, and genomics in diagnostics. This era is expected to make these factors critical competitive factors in the industry.

AI-powered diagnostics demonstrated significant advances, such as a new blood test that detects early Lyme disease with over 90% sensitivity and specificity—vastly improving early diagnosis and treatment outcomes compared to the standard test that only detects 30% of early cases.

Seegene unveiled two breakthrough technologies at the conference: CURECA™ and STAgora™. CURECA™ is the world’s first system to fully automate every step of PCR testing, including manual pre-treatment and nucleic acid extraction, enabling 24/7 continuous operation with minimal human intervention, improving accuracy and reducing lab workload. STAgora™ is a real-time PCR diagnostic data analytics platform that collects and analyzes global diagnostic data to support clinical decision-making and unlock the value of large-scale diagnostic datasets.

These innovations signify a transformative shift toward fully automated, data-driven laboratory medicine, expected to simplify workflows, enhance operational efficiency, and ultimately contribute to a vision of a world free from diseases.

Empowering Patients with Generative AI Tools

Generative AI tools were also shown to empower patients, such as adolescents, by helping them gather useful medical information, highlighting AI’s broader positive impact beyond diagnostics.

Looking Ahead to ADLM 2026

ADLM 2026 will be held in Anaheim, California, from July 26 to 30, 2026. The conference continues to be a leading event in the field of laboratory medicine, showcasing the latest advancements and fostering collaboration among professionals dedicated to improving health outcomes through innovative solutions.
