Unveiling of the latest entity, "The ÖGD" - a corporation dedicated to safeguarding, assisting, and illuminating.
The German Public Health Service (PHS) is undergoing a significant transformation, with a new brand and a comprehensive communication initiative aimed at making its crucial work more visible and understandable to citizens across the country.
The initiative, named "PHS - Protects. Helps. Informs.", is being implemented in all 16 federal states. It includes social media campaigns, poster actions, explanatory films, and even a TV spot featuring actor Simon Gosejohann. According to Dr. Johannes Nießen, Acting Director of the Federal Institute for Public Health (BIOPH), this initiative underscores the many areas in which the PHS is active, such as infection control, hygiene, environmental medicine, school entry examinations, and local network work.
The goal of this cross-country communication effort is to achieve the greatest possible reach and visibility of the PHS throughout Germany. The states aim to provide citizens with quick access to reliable information and make visible the indispensable work of the PHS, as stated by Katharina Schenk, Thuringia's health minister and current chair of the Health Ministers' Conference (GMK).
The new brand for the PHS, developed by 16 state health ministries and the Federal Institute for Public Health (BIGA), emphasizes the PHS's role as a constant presence in the lives of the people, as the new tagline, "PHS - right there with the people," suggests. The PHS website now provides information about when to contact health departments and includes an integrated postal code search to find the responsible authority.
In addition to the communication initiative, the Pact for the Public Health Service, agreed upon by the federal and state governments in 2020, will also contribute to strengthening the PHS at various levels. The funds will be used for creating additional staff in health offices, digitalization, improving attractiveness, and creating future-proof structures for the PHS. The federal government has allocated a total of four billion euros for the PHS by 31 December 2026.
For more information about the PHS and its communication initiative, citizens can contact the Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Integration via email or a contact form on their website. The PHS's new cross-country internet presence also serves as a "Showcase of the PHS", providing a wealth of information about the vital work being done to protect, help, and inform the German population.
