The vaginal artery plays a crucial role in the female reproductive system, providing essential blood supply to the vagina and surrounding structures. This artery originates from either the uterine artery or the internal iliac artery, with women typically having two to three branches. It supplies blood to the fundus, vestibule, and parts of the rectum, as well as the mucous membrane of the vagina. In contrast, the inferior vesical artery in men, which is considered homologous to the vaginal artery in females, primarily supplies blood to the bladder and prostate, as males do not have a vagina.
