Woman in Coldstream Guards musical ensemble convicted of sexually assaulting fellow band member, instigated by alcohol-induced incident where she proposed a sleep-inducing massage.
A Drunken Coldstream Guards Clarinetist Accused of Sexually Assaulting Her Comrade
In a shocking turn of events, a member of the renowned Coldstream Guards band, whose role primarily involves guarding the Royal Family and performing high-profile ceremonial duties outside Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle, has been convicted of sexual assault.
The assailant, Adelle Foster, a British Army musician, was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault by a board at Bulford Military Court in Wiltshire. The incident took place in a drunken stupor, after Foster had consumed about a bottle of wine.
According to the prosecutor, the victim and Foster "didn't get on that well, and they argued," including about each other's behavior. The confrontation escalated when Foster offered to give her female comrade a massage to help her sleep. Despite the victim's refusal, Foster proceeded to stroke her hand.
When the victim attempted to remove Foster's hands, the clarinetist grabbed her breast and touched her intimately. All the touching occurred through the victim's clothing. Foster continued to touch the victim throughout the night, even after the victim tried to leave the room.
The incident was partially captured in audio recordings that the victim made that night, which were played in court. In the recordings, Foster can be heard saying, "I'm still going to touch you," and later, "Are you going to tell your boyfriend?". The victim responded, "Don't" and "I don't find it comfortable, all this touching."
Foster, who claimed she was only joking, sent a message to the victim at around 2.40am saying, "I was just trying to be friends," and "don't make yourself a victim." She later asked if the victim was "pretending to be a victim."
Despite her claims, Foster was found guilty of sexual assault. The specifics of her sentencing have yet to be announced.
