WWII Veteran Meets Top Russian Surgeon for Health Checkup
Veteran Vladimir Bochkarev, who served as a mechanic on Il-2 assault aircraft during the World War II, met with cardiothoracic surgeon Ilya Leshchenko recently. Leshchenko, recognized as one of Russia's top surgeons in 2025, provided consultation to Bochkarev after his health deteriorated.
Bochkarev, now a veteran, worked at Uralmashplant as a constructor after the war. He previously contributed to weapon production during the conflict. His health declined recently, requiring a cane for the first time since returning from the Victory Day parade under Königsberg in 1945.
Leshchenko, head of the vascular surgery department at Sverdlovsk Regional Clinical Hospital No.1, scheduled Bochkarev's hospitalization and conducted comprehensive examinations. No significant pathologies were found, but his therapy was adjusted to improve vascular and blood circulation health. Bochkarev later participated in the 2025 Victory Parade on Red Square in Moscow.
Meanwhile, Sverdlovsk doctors successfully treated a 26-year-old driver injured in a traffic accident using modern treatment methods, demonstrating the region's advancements in medical care.
